Dhoti:

The dhoti, also known as panche, vesti, dhuti, mardani, chaadra, dhotar, and panchey, is a traditional men's garment worn in the indian subcontinental. It is a rectangular piece of unstitched cloth, usually around 5 metres (20ft) long, wrapped around the waist and the legs and knotted at the waist.

It is the national dress of the Madhesh region of southern Nepal, worn mainly by Nepalies of Madhesi, Tharu and Maithli ethnicity.

Hare Krishna , known for its distinctive dress code, prompts Western adherents to wear pancha, usually of saffron  or white cloth folded in a traditional style. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was known for wearing a white silk dhoti.

In India, there's a distinction between the lungi, a similar but smaller garment often worn by the lower classes, and the more formal dhoti that is sometimes worn by politicians.

Kurta:  Kurta  is an upper garment for men and women, originating in the indian subcontinent , with regional variations of form.

style of Kurta:

The straight-cut kurta is a loose shirt falling either just above or somewhere below the knees of the wearer, and is traditionally worn by men. However, women do also wear the straight-cut kurta or its shorter version, the kurti They were traditionally worn with loose-fitting paijama (kurta-paijama), loose-fitting salwar semi-tight (loose from the waist to the knees, and tight from the calves to the ankles) churidars or wrapped-around dhoties. but are now also worn with jeans. Kurtas are worn both as casual everyday wear and as formal dress.

Imported straight-cut kurtas were fashionable in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s, as an element of hippie fashion, fell from favor briefly, and are now again fashionable. Women from the Indian subcontinent may also wear this Western adaptation of fashion in the Indian subcontinent.
